10 Things You'll Love About "Forrest for the Trees" if You Love Penny Reid's Green Valley

If you’ve been paying attention, you know I’m ridiculously close to releasing Forrest for the Trees, Book 1 in the Green Valley Heroes universe. The book’s been written for about a year and it’s taken me a lot of willpower (I mean, a LOT) to keep the details under wraps. Now that the release has been officially announced, I am bursting with information (and extreme excitement!) about this book. Here are ten things you will LOVE about Forrest for the Trees if you love Penny Reid and other books in the Green Valley universe.

  1. Forrest is bearded and sexy. If you’ve embraced Green Valley, you’ve embraced the magic of the beard. Forrest Winters takes great pride in grooming his. Born in Green Valley, he is oozing with southern charm.

  2. Sierra is a badass who is not to be trifled with. A native of California who moves to Green Valley to work as a ranger at Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Sierra Betts grew up with three brothers (triplets!) so yeah, Forrest does not intimidate her. She grew up with the same kinds of high jinks Ashley Winston did.

  3. There’s a mystery to solve. Worry not—it is very much a romance, complete with all the pining, and banter, and flirting, and a LOT of kissing. What throws my grumpy heroine, Sierra, together with my pining hero, Forrest is their shared goal of finding out who is starting a series of suspicious fires in Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

  4. Dill Pickle Cupcakes are indicted. And it’s high time somebody did. Forrest and Sierra don’t agree on much, except for the fact that dill pickle cupcakes aren’t natural.

  5. Forrest is obsessed with his axe. Like many beloved Green Valley citizens, Forrest has a quirk. He says he only carries it around because he’s a firefighter ::eyeroll:: but he’s actually a fire marshal who doesn’t really fight fires. So, yeah, he really loves his axe.

  6. You’ll meet some dumb criminals. Like, really dumb. Green Valley has seen its share of smart and scary criminals. But dumb criminals? Yeah, they’re a whole lot of fun.

  7. A character you’ll love to hate gets his comeuppance. Sorry, can’t give spoilers here. Let’s just say, someone who’s trying to sabotage Sierra will get exactly what he deserves.

  8. It’ll show you a new Green Valley tradition you’ve never seen. Now that Penny has allowed us to start a Heroes world, you’re going to start seeing a LOT of what happens behind the scenes for law enforcement, first responders and some other essential workers. In Forrest for the Trees, you’ll witness poker nigh at the Green Valley Fire Department. It turns out Grizz Grady is kind of a shark. Much smack-talking ensues.

  9. Taxidermy beavers. Sorry. That’s all I can say about that. But, doesn’t that already sound pretty Green Valley?

  10. Forrest puts his own life on the line when it means saving Sierra’s. Add him to the Green Valley Hall of Fame of heroes we adore!
