I Sat Down with Crime Writer Aime Austin. And We Talked About Evvvvrrrrything....

Now, you know I’m no stranger to podcasts. I’ve been on some amazing ones, like the Kobo Writing Life podcast, The Good Story Podcast, Rachael Herron’s How do You Write?, and The Misfit’s Guide to Writing Indie Romance. Most of the ones I’ve been on in the past have been author advice podcasts, but in November, crime writer Aime Austin invited me to be on her podcast, A Time to Thrill. And we didn’t talk about author advice. We talked about evvvvvvvrrrrything…

I’m really not joking. We talked about how we became friends, over some of the RWA drama (0:00); the very first time we met (~13:30); We talked about being stuck at home for COVID and not being able to get away (16:00); we discovered (on-air!) our mutual love for K-Dramas (22:20); we talked about our general wanderlust (30:00); we talked about some of my books and how I name them (38:30); we kicked around thoughts about the climate for Black authors of Women’s Fiction and the future of Women’s Fiction in general (48:15); we talked about how to find (and write) books we actually want to read—books with prickly, difficult heroines; we talked about how I always end up writing social justice and feminist romance (1:07:15), and why Snapdragon was autobiographical for me (1:15:45).

I loved, loved, loved talking to Aime, and I loved re-listening to the podcast and I loved her super-awesome intro that included some behind-the-scenes things I didn’t even know about related to our story! Here’s where you can listen:
